Mangalore Speakers Hive Holds Its Inaugural Meeting

A New Beginning: Mangalore Speakers Hive Holds Its Inaugural Meeting

On 15th August 2026, a new chapter opened in Mangaluru's public speaking community. Mangalore Speakers Hive held its very first meeting at Shanker Bhavan, Airport Road, and the energy in the room matched the theme perfectly: New Beginning.

From 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, a room full of first time members came together to speak, listen, and support each other, setting the tone for what this chapter hopes to become: a safe, structured space where people can practise speaking and grow as leaders.

Setting the Stage

Master of Ceremony M N Pai opened the meeting, welcoming participants and introducing the theme of the day, "New Beginning," along with the Word of the Day, "Euphoric." He also introduced the key role players for the session, encouraging everyone to take an active part and treat the meeting as a supportive space for practice rather than performance.

Hive Talks: The Heart of the Meeting

The main speaking segment featured two prepared Hive Talks:

  • Nivedita Mirajkar delivered "A Lesson from my Life," reviewed by Malini Hebbar
  • Bharathi Shevgoor delivered "Flawed and Fabulous," reviewed by C K Ballal

Both speeches ran 3 to 5 minutes, and each was followed by a focused peer review, giving speakers real, constructive feedback rather than generic applause.

Thinking on Their Feet: The JAM Segment

No speakers hive meeting is complete without some spontaneous speaking, and this one delivered. Rani Mathias took on the role of JAM Master for the Just-a-Minute segment, inviting participants to speak off the cuff for roughly 1 to 1.5 minutes. It's a small format with a big payoff: organising your thoughts on the spot and speaking with confidence, even when you haven't had time to prepare.

Keeping Things on Track

Two roles kept the meeting running smoothly. Savitha Salian served as Timekeeper, tracking how well speakers stuck to their allotted time. Maria D'Costa took on the role of Wordsmith, keeping an ear out for how participants wove the Word of the Day, "Euphoric," into their speaking.

Recognising the Effort

The meeting closed its formal segment with Best Role Player certificates, recognising members who stepped up through their assigned roles with preparation and active participation. It's a small gesture, but one that reinforces what this community is really about: showing up and contributing.

Wrapping Up

M N Pai brought the formal proceedings to a close around 5:45 PM, followed by the Best Speaker Awards and a few closing announcements. The meeting adjourned by 6:00 PM, and the evening rolled naturally into refreshments and networking, giving everyone a chance to connect beyond the structured segments.

What This First Meeting Achieved

Looking back at the inaugural gathering, a few things stand out:

  • A strong, participative launch for Mangalore Speakers Hive
  • A structured yet friendly format blending prepared speeches, impromptu talks, and peer feedback
  • Clear role-based participation with recognition built in from day one
  • The beginnings of a genuine community around speaking, leadership, and personal growth

A Word of Thanks

None of this comes together without people willing to show up and take a chance on something new. Appreciation goes out to every participant, speaker, reviewer, and role player who made the first meeting lively and purposeful. It set a strong foundation for the meetings ahead.

As the Hive's own motto puts it: Speak. Lead. Grow.

Here's to many more meetings, many more speeches, and many more new beginnings.
